Cell Phones
Ever since the cell phone was invented we have had tons and tons of success and problems. Talking while you drive is okay but texting is against the law. Especially with these new high tech phones, its too hard. They are so fragile once your finger glides over a button then it types the word for you. Talking on cell phones in a public place is okay. The downward effect is sometimes you can hear a person whole conversation and they are talking extremely loud like the other person is going deaf. Inside of a restaurant talking on a cell phone should be kept to a minimum. The people around you might be having a business meeting or special occasion. If I am on a date with a man don't be on your cell phone. To me that is disrespectful and you really should be focused on the conversation at hand and trying to get to know me if its our first date or spending quality time with me if we have been dating for a awhile. They have this thing where you can put the phone on speaker or ear piece because its all hands free but costly. Cell phones are expensive for the latest technology it has to offer. There is even a phone now where you can swipe your bank and credit cards. I'm like wow that's too cool. Even on my job in the next year or so everyone is suppose to have a phone that is a ramp agent or dangerous goods agent. With this device you will be able to scan the container numbers and they go right into the system and tell you whether it is air worthy or not in like less than 3 minutes. It also will have GPS in them to locate unruly employees who leave the area for long periods of time. I love cell phones personally and have had the same number since I have started using one. Also cell phones are good in emergencies. You have to remember though when calling from one know your location because the operator really doesn't know that information. Another thing is they are useful and come in handy grocery shopping because it has a calculator, or trying to find the right location, or researching the latest dance craze. Our cell phones are awesome.

My thoughts
Wherever you work take pride in doing your best at all times. Never let clients see you sweat or not working. Makes the company overall look bad. I have had to work with people I don't like and don't care to be around because their vibe is just always negative. On any body's job be mindful that you are getting paid to do a job and not to sit around on the clock and watch others work. If everyone came to work ands sat down and did nothing what would happen to the company it would probably go out of business. What happen to teamwork? I may not like you but I am willing to work with you to get the job done quicker and more efficiently. Work is exactly that. It isn't meant to be easy all the time and sometimes yes your work will take longer than that required eight hours. Be respectful of others and their situations because you want someone to be respectful of yours. I am discussing this because I had a very bad night at work due to others not pulling their weight. My manager expects a lot out of me and I get that. My tasks sometimes have shorter periods than what they need to have. Also our fellow employees are more of tell you what to do and then not do anything themselves. Our company is said to be down 500 people. I was like wow really that isn't good but people want to work but not work as hard. They want the benefits and pay but don't want to put in the years of service to reap those benefits. I constantly strive to do my best and fill at times it isn't enough. That's why my job now is a stepping stone to something greater. Wherever you work and with whomever are you going to be there long term or short term. I am glad that there are still people in the workplace that can say thank you or I appreciate that. I am one of them.

Violence
Every time I turn on the news there is always someone dieing or hurt or in a bad situation. Violence of any kind is not okay. Close to where I live a police officer was arrested for domestic disturbance. He had been abusing his wife for awhile. It is all just so sad. A police officer with a lot of authority was actually a coward because he hit his wife. If things get that bad one of the two should have just walked away and said enough is enough. Being in a abusive relationship physically or emotionally isn't good for anyone. I must say that trying to end one is very difficult. The violence at schools are even growing. If the students spent half the energy they do fighting each other. We would have a large graduating class from every high school because everyone would be passing. The children should spend their time learning not causing conflicts. Also people forget their is emotionally abuse too. It ranges from a spouse to a family member or anyone really who means you no good. There are several counseling centers around the Memphis area that can help anyone willing to go for help. There is violence outside of Memphis. It is everywhere and it needs to stop now. Children early on are learning behaviors of violence from their parents. The behavior is learned and passed from generation to generation. I think that most are scared to get help because they fear for their life. It is all just sad to hear of people who can't control their tempers in order to get along. The madness needs to end before everyone is locked up and no one is out living their life.

HOMES
It was to my understanding that people work hard in order to make a living for themselves. If I had to save and save for a house, I would like a nice house in a pretty good neighborhood. There is a house in Frayser on Mount Terrace that just makes you sick to your stomach. How can the city allow a house that has been vacant for about a year to look so rundown and unsafe? When you house hunting you not only look at the potential house you might purchase but also at your neighbor's home to see how well they maintain their home. The house is really hard to look at because it just doesn't make sense. Memphis is need of jobs and that definitely will open some up if they don't already have people for the job. The house needs the front and backyard mowed, painted inside and outside, windows fixed, floors redone and the pool drained and bought up to code. After the family moved out why wasn't the house boarded up so that squatters couldn't get inside. It might be some illegal activity going on inside in the early morning hours and we wouldn't even know it. The city should want everyone one day to own a home and not a death trap. Here is the thing though there are several more houses in Memphis in the same condition or worse and nobody knows what to do about these abandoned homes yet. I have some suggestions on the matter. First and foremost get the health department in there and look around and see what all needs to be bought up to code to make it safe. Next, have contractors come in and upgrade and fix all electrical and other problems. Now we need a fresh coat of paint, new blinds and soft lighting. After we have done everything we can think of to the house. It is now time to sell it. Houses range from low to high but if there are so many like the same. The city can just make them more affordable. Come up with a plan for working single parents or working class couples who are trying to have a foundation.

THIS COLD WEATHER
Go away cold and come again another day like never. It has been colder then ever lately. Every once and awhile we get one pretty day and the sun shines and we are just so excited. The next day we get up and its freezing cold. It just sucks to know that this cold weather isn't going anywhere. We wear scarves, hats, earmuffs, and coats to stay warm. Is is really enough though. I work nights and boy let me tell you if I didn't have to be out there in it I wouldn't. I notice on the weekend everyone is out in full force regardless of the weather. It doesn't matter if they are clubbing, going out to eat, or whatever. I rather be hot than cold cause you don't have to wear so many layers to stay warm. This cold weather gives me the blues I promise you it does. Oh my don't let it snow a little and everyone gets afraid and can't drive. I think it was a weekend or something anyway they said a snowstorm was headed our way. I was like ok but looked at my fridge totally bare. I said well let me go to Walmart and get a few items right quick since the snow had started and was getting colder. I get to Walmart the food section is bare. Nothing on the shelves, extremely long lines, and be in a hurry. I guess I was the last to hear about the snow cause it doesn't bother me like that. I still have to work regardless. I know that sucks for me. It just amazes me how we panic in cold but hot we relaxed until that air stop working that is. Cold go away. No matter how many times I say it doesn't go away. The cold weather is here until the season at least changes. It doesn't help matters any when its cold and raining. You wake up to it and its blah. Oh well as long as the sun shines I should be ok I guess.

Shopping
The thing I do best is shop. I haven't found too many people that don't like to shop. I do my best shopping early in the morning once the stores open and I always find a good deal on things. The companies always have stuff on sale, clearance, and regular priced. If you wait about two weeks and come back to a store to purchase the thing you really wanted but didn't want to pay full priced for has been marked down. Sometimes stores due inventory and markdowns on certain days to draw in the public. If you have favorite stores you might want to inquire when those days are and shop on those days. I love a good deal. Even if you are out buying groceries, it can be a rush sometimes to stay under budget but get everything you want. If you pay closely attention to the price of bread, milk, cheese, and eggs. The prices are always up and down. The generic is always reasonable and taste just like the name brand sometimes. Buying tires for your car can seem overwhelming, but I normally call around and price different places to see who has the best deals. I love to shop for anything. Whether its clothes, shoes, cleaning supplies, hair products, just whatever. Some would say I am addicted to shopping but as long as I am not in debt, it is fine right? I don't care what others think because it is my money that I am spending and I don't drastically spend four or five hundred dollars in a day. People who do spend large sums like that just because have a serious problem. I splurge once every three months.
It is hard to even go in Wal-Mart sometimes and buy maybe three items. As soon as you come through the door, you see something and are like yeah I need that or wow that’s on sale, let me stock up. Costco and Sam's Club really make shopping for a large family simple because everything they have comes in bulk. The decision making process is then made simpler. Our clothes and shoes that department stores sale can sometimes be found in T.J. Maxx, or Kohl's, or Marshall's. I wonder if you all have noticed that too as well. Shopping can be fun but yet stressful. Like back to school shopping is the worst. It seems everybody is waiting on no sales tax weekend before they buy supplies or uniforms. Are we really getting a good deal that weekend by no sales tax or have the made the prices reasonable and added the tax in and make it seem like everything is on sale. Have we paid close attention to how retailers want us to spend our money? I am standing in a store looking at dresses and the dress I want is red and in my size. Let's say I wear a size six, but my friend may be a twelve and it doesn't come in red but blue. The red dress in a size six is thirty eight dollars but the same dress in blue in a size twelve is fifty eight dollars. Why is that? Does the color really matter? What if they were the same color but after the size ten, the price goes up.
We really should pay attention to detail when shopping. Like buying shoes for instance, we really want those new Jordan’s, or Nikes. The size we need is the display shoe. Everyone has tried it on, has a spot that is tiny, but it is my size and I just want it. Is the store supposed to take off a percentage because it’s the display or throw in something free? Depending on if you have the gift of gab, you might be able to get a discount and then sometimes they won't. The same store will wait until the following week and then lower the price of the shoe. I am amazed at our retailers. It doesn't discourage me from shopping but makes me aware to pay more attention.

Crime and Safety
As a young vibrant woman of my early 20s, I am aware of my surroundings. Be cautious of people who are watching you closely. I presently work third shift and I must tell you. There are some creepy people out that time of morning. I have been known to go to the Wal-Mart, gas station, grocery store, and wherever else at 3 or 4 a.m. Ladies don't do it. Memphis crime rate is steadily growing. Now there is a person snatching ladies purses off the front seat while they pump gas. Because when you at the pump you are easily distracted by people near by holding a conversation or your phone rings and you just talking a mile a minute. You haven't even realized that you left your person on the front seat visible to prying eyes and now that you have turned around your valuables are gone. Never ever leave your purse or any valuables visible to the naked eyes. Crime doesn't know a specific time or day. It can happen to anyone anywhere at any time. It feels like we can't even be safe anywhere anymore. I have a friend who just passed the police academy. He said I should carry a small thing of mace with me and if I have to go out at night. Go with a friend and stay in well lighted areas. I know young people love to party and club. Just be careful. I know that at any point and time something can happen to me. What happens at night happens during the day as well? It just amazes me that no one knows who this purse snatcher is as of yet. There is one detail that the person drives a newer model white ford mustang. Everyone should just be aware to always look around them and keep your doors locked. Even though I am standing at the pump, my doors are locked and my eyes open wide. Everyone should try their best to keep themselves safe at all times.
